Hi All,

I have a dilemma here and I need some thoughts and insights on what gaming system I should get.

I currently have the following setup:

  • 55" 2015 Sony Bravia 4K TV
    PS4
Unraid server setup with a VM using a GTX 980
    Steam Link and Controller

Now PC gaming has been ok but if I get multiple people accessing my unraid server (Plex mainly) and gaming at the same time, the server gets pretty bogged down. I also have, until recently, gamed on the PS4 since all of my buddies are on there. Lately I've had an interest in getting back into PC gaming since that's what I grew up on and the fact that the selection and price of games is so vast. So, with that being said, here's my 3 options:

-Buy new PC parts and move the GTX 980 to that PC
-Buy a PS4 Pro and keep the unraid server with VM setup for light gaming
-Buy a PS4 Pro and use a service such as LiquidSky (Cloud gaming) or create my own cloud gaming device on Amazon AWS

Some things to note:

  • -My PC gaming, at this time, will be 100% done via Steam In-Home streaming to my laptop (5Ghz WiFi) or my Steam link connected wired
-I'm more of a casual gaming
-The reason I'm thinking about the PS4 Pro is to utilize my 4K TV better (I know the PS4 Pro is not really true 4K)
-The TV is the only one in the house shared by my family so I do like the ability to game on the laptop (In-Home stream or PS4 Remote Play)

Alright. Let me know your thoughts and/or if you have any questions. Thanks in advance!

Cost vise, it's cheaper to go with PS4 Pro than with gaming PC.

PS4 Pro costs $400, while the medium-end gaming PC would cost $750+ and that's even when you use your GTX 980. Note: that $750 doesn't include peripherals (monitor, KB, mouse, speakers, headset etc). With peripherals, you're looking the cost of medium-end PC to be around $1000. And with medium-end PC, you can play at 1080p and not at 4K.
Here's one example of such a medium-end gaming build, pcpp: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Bw3G6X

For proper 4K build, the GPU alone (GTX 1080 Ti) costs $700. PC cost, without peripherals, would be around $2000.
