I've been having bizarrely weak performance with my CPU when playing games, much weaker than it should be.
I have-
AMD FX-6300 CPU
Biostar A960D+ motherboard
16GBs corsair vengeance
750W power supply
MSI Radeon R9 290
2TB Firecuda SSHD

The GPU runs fine during benchmarks while the cpu has half the performance it should.

"weaker [performance] than it should be" - compared to what? another fx-6300 cpu? or compared to another PC with a r9 290 that may or may not have a different CPU, such as an intel i7-7700k?

could it be your biostar motherboard? do you have a good cpu cooler? is there thermal throttling? what's the underlying problem?

My CPU averaged at 7.79 during the physics benchmark. My CPU score was 2454 while the average score for the 6300 is 4900.
I know the fx-6300 is not a fantastic CPU but all the benchmarks I've seen has it running much better than what I'm getting. My GPU seems to be carrying all the weight in the benchmark.
I'd imagine it's probably either power, heat, or my motherboard. I'm not sure what I need to do to narrow down the cause.
