So I've installed a ATI Radeon 9600xt in my old Dell and I have huge trouble getting the drivers to work. It first got some Windows OEM drivers all by itself and all was fine, then I decided to put actual ATI drivers, which screwed up the whole system. My screen is shifted to the right(No, it's not my monitor's fault, since if I remove the GPU it changes back to normal) and it's very laggy.
Whenever I try to install ATI Catalyst, it complains that NET Framework 2.0 is not installed, even tough it actually is and when it's time to install the drivers themselves, it just won't work. It suggests me to use the standard VGA compatible drivers first. How can I do that? Keep in mind, I'm running Windows XP SP3.

You only get the standard VGA adapter installed if every trace of the ATi drivers are uninstalled first and you reboot. ATI's Control Panel uninstaller leaves the actual driver files in the Windows directories and their current uninstaller utility doesn't run in XP. They had an old uninstall utility for XP but I don't know how well it works.

Forget about CCC and dotnet. Manually install the drivers in Device Manager (Have Disk and browse to the C:\ATI folder or if you aren't going to use OpenGL, use the Microsoft ones). Then install the old Control Panel Suite 8.253.200.1 or if you prefer a 3rd party app, something like ATI Tray Tools.

Thanks for the reply, really gave me a clue of what's going on.. I've tried going into devmgmt and used Have Disk. I clicked on 2 files and both only had drivers for other GPUs, not mine. How can I use the Windows OEM ones? When I first installed the card into the system in devmgmt it said that I had drivers for the card made by Microsoft.
