Hi all,

My computer does not start anymore after installing my 1070 gtx with a 6 to 8 pin adapter.

Symptoms:
When I start the computer, the power goes on fans turn up and then after 5 seconds the system turns off. A few seconds later, the system turns on again, ASUS splash screen appears on screen moves onto check up stage, detects CPU, Memory, USB connections, Sata disks and then says the following:

"Please enter setup to recover BIOS setting.
Press F1 to Run SETUP"

I press the F1 key and nothing happens, the keyboard works as I am able to CtrlAltDelete the system back to reboot. In short, the computer freezes and I cannot enter the BIOS at all.

My specs:
I have a ASUS Z87-K, intel I5 4570, corsair CX600 600w and 24gb SDRAM3 and a OCZ ssd.

Trial and error diagnose.
I have tried everything I think.
- I had an LC8850 psu and bought the corsair, same error.
- I have cleared the CMOS shortening the jumpers and the battery as stated in the board manual, same error.
- I unplugged the SSD, same thing. Tried other HDDs and USB boot drives, same thing.
- Plugged each RAM stick separately one by one, same thing. I don't have other ram sticks than the ones that were installed when the pb occurred so I cant try other ones.
- The new PSU is able to power the 1070 and when I plug it in the video feed works fine but same 2 dead boots. Hopefully the 1070 is fine.
- The only different result I can get is if I remove all RAM sticks. The computer beeps as expected but at least skips the first dead boot, meaning it boots without turning off the first time beeping the usual long-short-short-short.

Can't think of anything else to do.

So, obviously plugging the 6 to 8 pin was a mistake and possibly one of the three (ram cpu or mobo) burned out. With my luck, why not all 3 of them?...

My question to you guys is, which of the 3 could be faulty? The thing is the system starts up, video feed from the mobo works, it checks CPU, RAM, USB and Sata, keyboard works and mobo is responsive to keyboard reboot. So.. I really cant say what is happening...

Sorry for the long post, I hope you guys can help me. I have a deadline for tomorro and It's going to be tough to get there..

Cheers!
Otto

Let me get this straight:

- Your system was working fine until you plugged in the 1070 with that adapter. Then it started freezing after POST.

- So you pulled out the 1070, hooked video to your integrated graphics, and still started freezing after POST. This is when you did your 'trial and error diagnoses'.

Do I have this right? In this case, I'd reckon it's your mobo; it would help if you could test on another mobo. I'd also replace that PSU immediately. Look here for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 PSU: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

Corsair CX600 is not a good PSU, and I don't know where LC8850 stands (never heard of it).

Remove the 1070, and boot with integrated graphics on 1 stick of RAM. See if you can POST without any freezing.

What do you mean POST without any freezing?
Maybe I wasn't clear on my first post, all of my tests were carried out using the integrated graphics. I also tried with 1 ram stick, same result.
Thx
