Ram shorting out psu?

New build, following the checklist with no post, got to the "unplug everything but the psu and cpu" part. Got long beeps, so added a stick of ram to second slot per mobo instructions. No beeps. Single stick in first slot went back to long beeps. Thoughts?

Mobo: asrock z170 pro4s

Ram: patriot signature 2x4g ddr4 pc4-17000

Psu: evga 100 450w bronze

You're gonna have to start swapping components (CPU, RAM, PS, etc.) to find the issue.

Edit - try resetting the CMOS with minimum components (CPU and 1 stick RAM).

It's not reaching bios. No splash page, no nothing. Tried booting into an ubuntu usb, no dice. When they were plugged in, the hard drives were spinning up and the light flickered momentarily, but that's the best I've gotten so far. Fans turn on too.
