Hey there,

I'm hoping to receive some advice as to whether I should attempt a clean install of windows 10 after I swap out my new mobo and CPU.

Changes being made:

MSI 760GM-P23(FX) (MS-7641) -----> ASUS B150 PRO D3 ATX DDR3 1800 Motherboard

AMD FX-4300 ------> Intel Core i5-7600K LGA 1151 (BX80677I57600K) CPU

Also upgrading DDR3 RAM from 8gb (4gbx2) ----> 16gb (8gbx2)

My current windows OS is an OEM version, I have no problem purchasing a retail license if that's going to make things significantly easier.

Data is backed up and I'm ready to swap hardware, is there anything I should to prior to doing so? Admittedly I've never had to do a clean install, can I just swap the pieces and purchase a windows retail license? Is there a specific order of operations?

Thanks in advance!

Setup a Microsoft Account and link your current PC to it , then backup whatever you want to save and perform a clean install on your new setup and activate it with your Microsoft account from within windows. Skip the key entry during setup and activate it from within windows with the registered Microsoft Account.

K so can I ask what exactly I need to do to perform a clean install of windows? I was thinking of linking the windows 10 key to my hardware's digital license and maybe installing the necessary drivers prior to the hardware swap, but I'm not sure if there is something I'm missing or a particular mode of operations.

Thanks!
