Hello! So yesterday, something really weird happened. The power in my room puts off for like 500ms(half a second) and comes back on...and i was playing on my pc. But what's weird is that my pc did NOT turn off when the power cut. It just rebooted. I didnt hear the fans turn off. Now idc about that but could this damage my pc?? And what was that? Was that a power surge or something?(it was raining outside, no thunder) I live in new york, are power surges common here? I have my pc directly connected to the wall outlet. I have a few power surge protect cable strips lying around and should i use them?(i think the extra cable ruins my setup) One is a white one with no brand and the other one is called monster mp av600 power protect, which has labelings on them, and none of them are for pc so does the labeling matter? And are they reliable?
Thanks for any answers!

Solution
A surge protector is always a wise idea when they are of half decent quality. No harm in being cautious, and the Monster one you have is of decent quality (so much so that it has a $10,000 guarantee (for 5 years). Use it for sure. Labelling doesn't matter. You should also go into your BIOS and tell the computer not to automatically restart on lost power..it's best to wait until you believe that the power is stable again. Power outages are rough on computers and their operating system. As for New York's power reliability.. it's a pretty established city and a lot less prone to problems than many other parts of the world, but everyone gets power outages.
