Hi,

I have a gtx 770 2gb, and that vram is killing me. I have to options (I game at 1080p btw). Upgrade to a gtx 780 ti which only has 3gb vram and is £150 ($190) or upgrade to r9 290 £90($110) which has 4gb vram. Power wise, I know gtx 780 ti is superior, but NvIdia isnt too nice to Kepler owners, especially with driver optimisatin, and its only 3gb vram, so not as future proof as the r9 290. I dont thin memory is a problem for r9 290 as it has a 512bit bus width, but its just 5GHz. Also, my cpu is an i3-6100, and im reluctant to spending over £100. These are from eBay btw. Also, I have an artic 750w modular psu which is tier 5 on the list, but seller said no issues ever, very reliable etc. However, I am keen on upgrading. On amazon, there is a thermaltake berlin 630w power supply very good condition used for £16 ($20). Is this good quality (can't find on tier list)? Will it be able to run this system?:

i3-6100
Gigabyte H110-S2H
R9 290
1x SSD
1x HDD
1x USB External HDD, LED 8200dpi mouse, speakers, keyboard
8GB RAM
Zalman ZM-T3 case
Optical drive
2x 120mm ARCTIC F12 Pro PWM fans
1x zalman 92mm case fan

Thanks, and i would also be very greatful if you told me how the card would peform in todays games (BF1, Overwatch) at 1080p, and if its better or worse than 1060 3gb.

Admirable
I have run several PCs with cheap / low tier power supplies before I knew better.
I was lucky, when they failed, I just had to buy a new PSU, disconnect the wires on the old one, fit the new one and tidy all the cables. Annoying, a waste of money, but no worse than that.
Others on this forum had to buy a new motherboard and reinstall windows when their PSU failed.
How lucky do you feel?

If a good power supply was £500, then I might risk a cheap one.... but you can get high quality EVGA supernova or Seasonic PSU for £60.

all of these graphics cards are over £150. I think I'm better off sticking to my r9 290. I'm sure it'll run overwatch at max or ultra 1080p60. As for demanding titles like BF1, high is ok. I will be upgrading my cpu when I feel confident with thermal paste. I'm horrible with this email liquids. The Intel pre applied is the best option for me. The thermal take power supply is on pc partpicker, so that must mean it's not a tier 5 at least. Either way, it will be an upgrade from my tier 5 750w Artic one. I just want to know what is the best performance for those games I could get. also, whenever my gpu is running something 3d (even if it's something that's not demanding, like chess titans) it makes a squeak through the speaker, and I suspect it's coil whine. is it cuz of the power supply or graphics card? my old set up was a 750 ti with evga 430w white power supply and I didn't experience the issue. as I upgraded both components together to the artic 750w and gtx 770, I don't know what's making the coil whine. thanks
