Can i combine 1600 mhz ram and 1866 mhz ram in a imac?

My friend is getting a new 5k 27 inch imac and it will come with 2 x 4gb of 1866mhz ram, i have 2 x 4gb of 1600mhz ram that i want to give him, i whould like to know if i can combine the 2 differnt ram speeds in his imac that is made for 1866mhz ram?

Maybe. Mix and match RAM is a crap-shoot. It might work (by slowing the 1866 RAM), it might not. With the amount spent on a new iMac, I would recommend getting RAM that is qualified for it.
