Hello,

Haven't posted on here in a while, my PC was built around 2 years ago, and now I'm starting to struggle to play some games on higher FPS that I would like to as I am on 144hz,

The main components are,

8GB RAM
R9 285OC Sapphire
Intel I7 4770,

I'm not really sure what would be limiting my FPS most, in games such as H1Z1 for example, my guess is the graphics card?

Any suggestions on good upgrades money wise would be appreciated I haven't done much research since all the new graphics cards so they are just names to me at the moment!, if you have a graphic card suggestion thats AMD, please add the Nvidia counterpart, as I'm not a huge fan of how hot my AMD graphics card gets so I would like to avoid that if possible (as long as its not wayyy more overpriced)

Thanks

4th gen i7 is pretty strong, so I'd warrant that it's probably the GPU ; synthetic tests on Userbenchmark show almost 50% improvement between a 285 vs a Radeon RX 480, and the NVIDIA Counterpart is the GTX 1060.

However, AMD's cut down RX 470 is a price/performance champ, lagging not too far behind an RX 470 for like, $50 cheaper at least.

AMD Cards definitely run hot on the reference cooler, but I find that if your case fits it, MSI Gaming X is an awesome cooling system on the GPU, and they're available on team red & team green's models.

Hello thanks for the fast response, am I stupid in thinking that the 8GB RX 480 cards are a lot better than the 4GB?

For example would this card

- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Radeon-DUAL-RX480-O8G-Express-DisplayPort-Graphics/dp/B01N9GQY5T/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1491179084&sr=1-1&keywords=rx+480

Be better than this card performance wise?

Right now I'm looking at those two AMD cards with -

4 GB MSI - £207
8 GB ASUS - £200

And a 1060 with -

6GB Gigabyte - £233

I think I am already learning towards the 1060 if its cooler and better performance wise?

RX 480 vs RX 480 is equal. The only reason the 8 GB would be better is if you had all your VRAM being eaten up and needed more ; sometimes but not often.

GTX 1060 uses 30W less power maxmimum and has better performance in some games than an RX 480, some games have better RX 480 performance. While it's usually under 10 FPS and not that significant, it can go both ways. More AMD biased games - ashes, bf1... those will lean towards the 480 usually.

Don't discount the RX 470, too. In my country it's significantly cheaper than a 480 or a 1060 for not much less, effectively being the most cost efficient.

I don't mind paying the little bit extra for a little more performance I know there are games I'm playing now where a little fps boost would really make things a lot smoother, so there's no overall winner between the 480 and 1060? I always thought nvidia were generally a little bit better guess amd have caught up, guess I will have a little wait and jump on whichever one has a really nice bargain pop up,

Thanks
