Router stopped connecting to network in dorm after Spring break?

I have a wireless Netgear router set up in my dorm room, because my school only allows 2 devices to be connected to the network at all times through a wired connection, and connecting my various devices to their network doesn't always work. I have the routers mac address set to my desktop's mac address so the school wouldn't notice its a router, this always worked. I left my dorm about 2 weeks ago, and had to unplug everything, so when I returned I plugged my router back into the Ethernet port on the wall, and it refuses to connect. I let my roommate use my router while I was away, but he said he couldn't get it to work either, the "i" symbol on the router is always the amber color. I even did a complete factory reset on the router too. Not too sure what the problem could be? Everything was working perfect the day I left, and when I returned it just doesn't connect.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

  1. Can you provide a picture of the router in question? specifically the LEDs on it that light up when fully booted?

Here is a pic of it.
  3. how does your router get access to the internet? does it plug into a modem or into an outlet in the wall?

i have 2 ethernet ports built into the wall. Which then connects to the schools network. I have the router wired into the correct port too, ( the port that always worked for me)
  5. just by going off of what I see in the picture your router itself is working fine but there is no internet connection. Perhaps your internet access has been turned off. can you plug the PC in directly and access the internet like going to YouTube and watching a video? If so, then you just need to customize some settings in your router. If not then your room has no access to the internet and you need to talk to someone about why.
  6. I guess for whatever weird reason, I just had to re-enter my mac address into the school. Don't know why I had to do it even if it worked the same before. but anyway its working now, thank you.
  7. Good to hear that everything is working fine now.
