Hey guys i'm looking at buying a new monitor.. ASUS PG279Q ROG Swift 27in 165Hz G-Sync IPS Gaming Monitor to be specific.

My question is will my AMD Radeon R9 200 Series be able to handle its potential? if not whats the max i can look at getting out of the Radeon in terms of Refresh rate and Resolution.

Please be in Laymans terms as i am a rookie.

If you want to game at the aforementioned resolution then you're going to need to go for a GTX970 at least or the GTX1000 series, preferably the GTX1070. I'm going to assume you're not limited by the BIOS lacking any UEFI support(since it's common for Ivy Bridge system's to not function with GTX1000 series cards) but for that higher resolution you're looking at a GPU upgrade.

There are a number of GPU's within that range. Which R9 do you have, 270/280/285/290/295? In retrospect the GPU can run you monitor without a problem but if you're talking about gaming duties, the R9 will fall short significantly. In fact at 2560x1440 you should be looking at the RX series of GPU's or the GTX1070.

Mind sharing your full system's specs+OS and your usage scenarios though game titles will be needed, productivity apps would help as well.

I am afraid i know how to share none of those things you asked for.
What? :??:

Each game is designed differently and if you know what I mean then you'll also know that some games operate better at a particular resolution while some operate better under a brand (AMD when compared to Nvidia. So if anything I was asking for the sort of games you play+ the specs of your system since the CPU will also aid the GPU at higher resolutions.

The GA-H170M-D3H by Gigabyte is physically incompatible with the i7-3770 processor so you either have a 7 series chipset motherboard or you have a Skylake/Kabylake processor. Pertaining to the PSU, I'm skeptical towards it's quality so much so that it's more of an expensive paper weight. If you should want to upgrade your GPU, you will also need to change the PSU for the sake of reliability+protecting your investments.

List your specs as:
CPU:
Motherboard: (make and model)
Ram: (make and model+ their load out on your ram slots)
SSD/HDD:
GPU: R9-290x
Chassis:
PSU: ADK- W700S Casecom
