I upgraded my cpu from Intel C2D e7300 (2.66GHz / 1066 MHz Fsb) to Intel Xeon x5470 (3.33GHz / 1333 MHz Fsb). The Motherboard is Mercury PNMCP73V. Memory sticks are 2*2GB DDR2 800MHz. Everthing was fine with e7300 cpu but when i changed it with xeon x5470 (with Adapter on it to support LGA775 Socket) my machine freezed after mercury logo appears. I can't go to bios options but the machine is running smoothly. I installed xeon x5470 with intel genuine fan (Brand new with bigger heatsink copper inside) and it is running smoothly. The motherboard supports C2Q cpu with 1333 Fsb. I have not tried bios update till yet. Anything that i can try to run x5470 on this machine ? Thanks in advance.

You need to upgrade the BIOS CPU microcode to support server-class CPU on a mainstream motherboard. To do this, flash a newer BIOS update but the problem is the board manufacturer will not likely release BIOS update that includes xeon LGA 771 microcode for your motherboard. You needs modded BIOS for this...

You can check here for supported boards. See if you can find the proper modded BIOS for your system.

I too can't find the bios update with the matching bios ID. The other bios update (which is for version 2 mercury motherboard mine is version 1) can't be flashed because of different bios ID and totally different codes. It won't allow me either to flash as it stops at error that ID does not match. So, what about the modded Bios, is that really works and whats the process ?

I don't have a bios update yet. The motherboard is having a support for C2Q with 1333 FSB and Xeon is almost xerox or vice versa except with an obvious different code name and very few but damn strong feature(s) so i choose xeon. I already bought xeon because of its features and its low cost over core 2 quad. Well, but no success as its not working for me.
