My motherboard has an on board WiFi.

I do not have access to Ethernet so I am stuck using wifi.

My landlord said the internet connection is 1000Mbps but I am doing internet speed test and only getting 10 mbps on a good day.

My wireless adapter is Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A.
It is a 2T2R antennae.

What can I do for faster speeds?
When I was on ethernet elsewhere, I was getting 170Mbps and also getting around 10 Mbps.
I think it's because of my wireless receiver.

I was thinking of getting a new wireless adapter. The Asus PCE-AC56.

I think the qualcomm device is actually newer and supports things the asus does not. Still they are pretty much the same when it comes to basic wireless stuff.

If you see a connection speed of 144m this means you are not using the 802.11ac features anyway. You are likely using the 2.4g band and running 802.11n. It is also using only 20mhz channels which limits the tops speed even on 802.11n. It does in general mean you have fairly strong signals since it would negotiate slower if the signals were weak.

With wireless you only get a tiny fraction of the so called connection rate for many reasons. Still 10m is really slow you should be able to get 30m or so even when it connects at 144m.

Hard to say what to try. Most speed...

Hard to say what to try. Most speed problems on wireless are a result of interference from other wireless signals. If you controlled the router you could change the channels it operates on but that is not a option for you.

I would try to use the 5g band and use 802.11ac. If the router you are connecting to does not have 802.11ac support then again there is little you can do.
