Specs:
I7 4790K@4.5Ghz
Palit GTX 1070 GameRock
16GB DDR3 1600 CL11

So basically, ive seen that RAM speed can be important in games such as Overwatch, my main game im playing at the moment, and RAM speed has a huge impact on FPS.

On /r/hardwareSwapUK over on reddit i can sell my current 4x4GB kit of corsair 1600 CL11 ram for around £60, and ive found this kit on amazon

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ADATA-DDR3-2400-Memory-Modules/dp/B00MG43Z0U

This is a 2400 CL11 kit for £85, meaning it will only cost me realistically £25 once i sell what i have now. Ive read its Hynix MFR, but its double sided, so some of the performance issues should be negated.

So is this worth it? Should i bother changing this RAM out/

Thanks

i dont think you'll actually see any difference.

are you actually running into FPS issues with overwatch? my 970 and 4790 are holding me steady at 1440p 60hz. youre 1070 and 4790k shouldnt have any issues id think on pretty much any settings

what monitor are you using?

I have a 144hz 1080p monitor, but i like to play on Epic Settings, meaning i get drops below 144. However, ive seen videos such as this one

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMxc8S2Ahwk

who has a basically identical system to me with the 4790k and 1070, and he gets a 70fps minimum increase and 90 fps on his average.

Assuming it's your bottleneck why not try it? Your system seems high end enough that it very well could be. TBH I just read up on this due to your post, interesting thread. It seems Overwatch is such a simple and efficient game that RAM becomes the star player for once, who knew?

Might as well just do it then, hardly and expensive experiment when i sell what ive got now :)

ahh okay ya im seeing some reddit threads saying that too. ya id try it. for 25 that seems like a decent test.

not sure about that kit indviidually but heres some more on pcpartpicker in case you wanted to shop around a little
http://pcpartpicker.com/products/memory/#s=302400,302666&xcx=0&Z=16384002

i think even if you went for a 90-110$ (pound) kit, itd probably be worth it if it kept your frames smooth

Agreed, and report back if you can, the hive mind wants to know...

Right now its out of stock til next week :(. Ill buy it and report back then haha. Name me a good benchmarking program thats not fraps so i can log this?

What are other players using? (I'm not an Overwatch player) Is there an issue with the game and Fraps? I haven't used it recently as my current lifesuck FF14 has it's own fps meter.

not on topic at all... but i wish blizz would move warcraft to the overwatch engine :D not that they will but they are due for an engine upgrade. if i could squeeze out a better constant FPS in warcraft by upgrading my 1866hz ram that would be amazing

fraps just lowers my fps by like 30 when i start benchmarking due to how cpu and ram intensive Overwatch is, thats why something else would be nice :)

Of course, makes sense to my newly coffee supplied brain now. No Vsync.....CPU at 100%, lets get it something more to do!
