I was wondering if my AMD FX-8350 would work with a ASUS M5A97 R2.0 Mobo (just for base speeds)

I have a AMD FX-8350 currently at 1.8GHz (slow I know) ((that's under load)) it's because of my current mobo

I have a 600w EVGA silver 80+

A RX 470 AMD GPU

just be sure your using bios 1006 or later if your using a older bios it may not fully work correctly if at all

Validated since BIOS -your cpu started support with beta bios 1006 ''FX-8350(FD8350FRW8KHK,4.0GHz,8C,125W,rev.C0,AM3+) ALL ''1006''

any bios 1006 or above you should be fine ??

Work? yes but not well. That board has a weak 4+1 VRM setup, do you have really bad airflow in your case, I mean that board should at least not need to underclock, but its possible if you have poor case airflow and you're pushing it. If you're using a tower cooler you will get no airflow over the VRMs, its a recipe for disaster with that chip.

No that the mobo I just got. The current mobo I have is pushing 1.8 GHZ on my CPU.
I have 2 outake and 4 intake fans on my mid-tower pc. I have top and 2 front and 1 bottom just for giggles.

added: my bad the current mobo have came with my older processor which was a FX-4300, so I upgraded it to a 8350, I dont know the name of the mobo as it came stock with my pc.

Ok thats good cooling but yeah a bad board can totally do that.

I recommend highly against the M5A97 R2.0 for that CPU.

If you get the M5A97 R2.0 you are not really improving, however if you can find the M5A97 EVO/PRO that has a 6+2 setup which would work. Otherwise you want the M5A99X or M5A99FX.

Other brands, the MSI 970 Gaming is good for that CPU, or the Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3.

Keep in mind these very specific model numbers are very important theres a big difference.

I just want stock speed @4.0 GHz nothing crazy. The board I got for free, so I kinda don't want to spend $100+ on a mobo

It will work, but it may have the same problem as your prior board. Although there are some boards that are even worse like if your old one was a Gigabyte GA-78-LMT depending on the model of that model.

In theory it should work if you have good cooling (which it sounds like you do) but theres a chance you will run into the same issue.

For free its worth a shot!
