Which CPU would be better for gaming? An xeon or a8?

I have 2 prebuilt desktops already. Both have 10 GB of RAM and will get a gtx 1050 installed, my main question is, will a xeon w3550 out perform an a8 6500? Or will it be the other way around? Looking to play GTA V, battlefield series and similar games.

Solution

If you want to see benchmarks or youtube videos for your xeon W3550 then look up the i7-950 as it's basically the same chip with the same L2 / L3 cache.

I'd guess 45-70fps in the city with that xeon, compared to 20-45fps with the A8

Also, if your cpu is the bottleneck turn the graphics up a bit to balance things out

So for gaming if I used the Xeon build I will have better fps? I tried GTA 5 on the amd with the 1050 and hardware monitor says all 4 cores r pretty much 100% for the cpu while the 1050 is not hitting 50%. Low fps also.
My school is gave away their old desktops which have the Xeon and was just wondering if it would be worth while to actually swap over. Will probably do that now

It depends on the model of Xeon as to the performance some are Quad-core which don't perform to the same level as something like an Intel Core I7 of the same Core and Cache.

However, Xeon's were designed with high intensity load and constant operation in mind so it's likely you'll see some improvements.
