Hi all,

I'm pretty new to all this but I have been looking to upgrade my PC for my birthday and already have some parts on the way and was looking into a EVGA GTX 1070. I am hesitant to try and make these purchases because I am unsure if it will be compatible with the rest of my machine so I was wondering if someone would be able to help me determine this. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place.

The Part in question: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487265&cm_re=evga_gtx_1070_sc-_-14-487-265-_-Product

Here are my current specs:

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750
CPU: AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor, 3500 Mhz, 3 Core(s), 6 Logical Processor(s)
Mother Board: Gigabyte System Model GA-78LMT-USB3
RAM: Currently 1 8gb DDR3 stick, have 4 8gb DDR3 sticks on the way.

Otherwise if there is a better route I should go I'm all ears. Overall I'm looking to able to play new games on my computer at relatively high settings and frame rates.

I'm sorry if this is not everything you need to determine this so please let me know if you need other information.

Thanks

your motherboard is too crappy to properly run one

6300 is already max you should be running on it, the 95w 8 cores are not an upgrade

toss in a gtx 1050 ti, anything higher will just be wasted money on performance you would not get
your motherboard is not capable of overclocking, and thus the cpu's wont keep up

put the rest of the money into a proper build

1070 is waaaaayyyyy too powerful for your build, you cant just strap a rocket to a donkey cart

cancel the extra ram, save the money

you need to throttle back your expectations, your setup is quite obsolete

get a gtx 1050 ti max

for a 1070 you need a whole new build

"I'm looking to able to play new games on my computer at relatively high settings and frame rates."

This is kind of vague. What's 'relatively high' to you? What resolution? Assuming 1080p, a 1070 is more than you need. On the bright side, at higher resolutions, newer games are GPU limited more than anything. So, at 1440p, that 1070 might not get as high a framerate on your computer as it would with a faster CPU but you'll still be glad you have it. You don't need maximum framerates to have smooth framerates.

Would a Rx480 be something more suitable for my build? I guess I'm not really sure what I'm looking for in terms of a GPU. And as far as relatively high settings in games I'm looking at 1080p 60+ frames.
