I read somewhere that there is a setting in the uefi to make the m.2 slot use pci-e only, but I don't see it in my z170x, right now I have 1 intel ssd 600p series 512gb in the top m.2 slot and it disabled the first sata port, this mobo only has 4 main sata ports, it has 2 other ones beside them but I think I need different drivers for them because I connected 1 of my hdd there and it's not recognized, now another question will the second m.2 slot disable another sata port?

Solution
in page 39 of your manual you can RAID the m.2 it says "An m.2 PCIe SSD cannot be used to set up a RAID set either with an m.2 SATA SSD or a SATA HDD" so as long as your m.2 is an SATA SSD you can RAID it.

also regarding the disabling of sata. you have 2 M.2 slot. the M2D_32G and M2H_32G if you use the M2H in M.2 PCIe x4 all you SATA slot will ok. but if you use the M2D only SATA 4 and 5 is enabled.
also as a side note: if you use M.2 SATA SSD in M2D SATA 3 is disabled and in M2H SATA 0 is disabled.

Most of the manual is like Chinese to me, and from looking at the sata designation numbers I think the m.2 slot disabled both sata_0 and sata_3, I will have to move the cable from sata_3 to sata_2 to confirm this.

Another question came to me, since the m.2 slots run from different tech, will I be able to raid0 them?

Yeah I moved the cable and that didn't work either, that's 3 disabled ports, I will get back in it later tonight, I'll look at power cable too, take out the ssd stick and test all ports with out it, I'll probably put it in the other slot like you said, thanks.

Indeed the bottom M.2 slot is only PCI-E, and the top slot did disable 3 sata ports, sata3_0, sata3_2 and sata3_3, and I had to reset the bios because when I installed the ssd the bios automatically rearranged everything but did not go back to default once I removed it and restarted the system.

So I am going to rethink the raid, perhaps wait till the 1TBs are the price of the 512GB are now or less.
Now I have to install Windows 10 on the M.2, I used the ssd speed test it writes about twice as fast as my 2.5" ssd and reads are almost 4x as fast, I know the Intel brand is the slowest of the NVME interface but I should be good for at least a year give or take lol.
Thanks for the help!
