EVGA 500W is enough for RX 480 4GB ?

Solution

Imo its a better choice, quality is similar to the S12II, and it is semi modular.
Also costs less, much better buy.

I do love the logic of people on Toms- the guy is building a G4560 based machine (that's a £60 processor)- so you suggest a PSU that will cost more than the CPU in the UK...?!

That EVGA unit, whilst not great, is plenty for a budget build. I know all the dire warnings they put on here about cheaper models however if you're not overloading them it's fine (for reference I've used Corsair CX units for years and never had a failure, as I use them well within their rated wattage and don't overclock).

Whilst in an ideal world everyone would buy a 'tier 1' psu for every build, the reality is you can use lower spec units and in fact all the large oem builders use these cheaper supplies. If they all failed all the time then large companies wouldn't use them as it'd cost them too much in RMA.

Many people have had bad experiences with these power supplies. A bigger and better power supply also leaves room for upgrades in the future.
We all know that RX 480 requires some reasonable power.

I don't disagree with that, if you can get a better unit for a similar price (as I mention I've always had good experiences with the standard CX units) there's no argument against that.

@Ali Tauseef- no issue if there is a problem with that specific unit (I haven't seen that one flagged up specifically), I just thought the unit you suggested was kinda overkill given the budget. Also the RX480 at stock clocks doesn't need that much power (about 160w typically)- it's not a 300 series board :p A psu with a rated 40A sustained load on the 12v line can drive up to 480w (not that I would recommend loading a cheaper unit that high- I would always advise to stick to a nominal 50% max load, which an RX480 should be well under).

Nah, take the S12II if possible.

And what about Corsair Modular CX450M ?

I must say that I've had zero issues with that PSU through GPU and CPU overclocks with a GTX 970 FTW also from EVGA. Yes, people talk smack about my PSU. Johnnyguru did as well. From the outside however.

https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-WHITE-Power-Supply-100-W1-0500-KR/dp/B00H33SFJU/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 Misleading because Amazon has combined reviews from multiple PSUs and is clearly misleading the consumer.

But, anyways that PSU will power your 480 just fine. It uses about 20 more watts at max load than my 970 FTW does. That still leaves a lot of headroom.

Should you purchase something else you can ditch that SSD. At your level of gaming I would not be investing in a SSD. That money can be invested in a better PSU or better yet, a better CPU(quad-core please).

I agree with you in terms of the PSU upgrade, but the RX 480 only draws around 300w system load under high usage scenarios.
However, this does not mean you cheap out and buy a crappy PSU. It is the most vital part of the system. :)

And 450W is enough for RX 480 ? :)
