Turning power supply off when installing something

Hey guys, sorry for creating many threads but i can't really search it on the internet and i just want to make sure.

So, it is really needed to switch off the power supply even the computer is turned off when installing something?

I recently re-installed my ram with the power supply on but the computer is off including the plug, can it cause damage because the power supply was switched on after i installed ram?

i always turn off the psu

then press the on/off button a few times to discharge capacitors

safer to do it that way in my opinion

No doubt it can damage something. Is it likely, no but the possibility is there. The above advice about htting the power button after turning off PSU is sound as well. It'll always flicker which means there was power in the capicitors which could harm something. Never done it more than once but I suppose it can't hurt.
