Anyone know how that will work out?
Thinking of buying a new graphic card while waiting for Vega, but my boyfriend got a rx480. So was wondering if I could give him my Rx580 and crossfire with rx480 when i get the Vega card?

If you had Nvidia cards then no, this wouldn't work as they have to be the exact same GPUs. Crossfire is a little less "tense" and will let you use different GPUs if they are in the same series. Ex: RX 450 and the RX 480 would work just fine. Same with a RX 380 and RX 360. You can grasp the idea. In this case, you don't have two cards from the series. Sadly, you *cannot* use both of these together.

No, this is wrong. Simply being in the same series is not enough (and there are cases where you can crossfire cards from different series). Generally speaking, the cards need to use GPU (even if they have different numbers of cores enabled). So you could crossfire an RX 480 and RX 470, but not an RX 480 and RX 460 (or R7 450).

Given that I believe the RX 580 is rumoured to just be a rebadged RX 480 with higher clocks, you might be able to crossfire them. But no one can say for certain at this point.

Already took a look at the Crossfire compatability chart on AMDs website?

It's a bit outdated by now, but I hotpe they will update it.
Amd was always a bit looser on the requirements for pairings than nVidia. So your chances are high. It is even possible to crossfire a 8GB RX 480 with a 4GB RX 480 or a RX 480 with a RX 470 or a HD 7770 with a R7 250X.
