Hi,

I'm planning on doing a new pc build and I want to install a new OS onto the same hard drive I have for my current pc (WD Black 1TB). How exactly would I do that? Do I just uninstall windows and download the new one onto it?

Thanks in advance,
Nathan

i used 8.1 for around 8 months, once i could move to the free win 10 upgrade i did it

i don't miss anything from windows 10 and almost all the trickss on win 8 works on win 10 so the learning curve is minimal

if you like win 8 you will like win 10 too

not much to complain about on win 10, apart form the annoying windows 10 updates that can fail alot, often

eventually you will have to discover where the os download packages and delete them to let it restart the download, that is the mian difference with windows 8

the updates cover alot more than on windows 8, so takes more time to download them and apply them

what os, what exact windows version, have you bught the license yet?

if you already have the disc or usb drive with it and the license, it is wiser to format the hard disk, but first, always first, make backups of your personal files like my documents, pictures, downloads, desktop and all that stuff

then install windows again, install a antivirus and then, copy the backups you made

Right now I have Windows 8(.1 possibly) 32 bit. For my next build I want to install the 64 bit version. By bootable media, do you mean a usb? Also, what exactly do you mean by "delete your partitions/format"?

the windows 8 can be downloaded with this microsfot tool located here

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjynsvR24vTAhXIDsAKHWnvCv4QFggbMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fsoftware-download%2Fwindows8&usg=AFQjCNGNKdDMqzyLJIXKu0KriGa0555GeQ

thelicense you have should work with the 64 bit version

that tool will create a iso or a usb drive that will be used to install

the hard disk your pc has contains a c partition, possibly others, it is the best advice to format those, but as i said previously, do backups first, once you format, you loose everything inside there, so do backups of everything first

there is many tutorial videos on youtube that explains how to do it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1HbsvhnjzY

another example

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2of3Lmvc3-k

you will get windows 8.1, windows 8 was replaced with that along time ago

have you considered to upgrade to windows 10?

Thanks! I've thought about windows 10, but it seems people either absolutely hate it or they absolutely love it. So I'm just gonna stick with windows 8.1 :)
