bord HP Z240 Workstation
System: Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)
Hi all i new hare :)
I am seriously debating between two NVME drives
On my HP 240Z system.
1: SAMSUNG '' 960-EVO 250GB ''
2: SAMSUNG '' 950-PRO 256GB ''
In mey contry israel the price are Pretty similar:
The '' 960-EVO 250GB '' is 232 $
And the '' 950-PRO 256GB ''298 $
well is not similar exactly.
In terms of performance i Believe the are the same the '' 960-EVO'' win in a bit
But i'm thinking on the Futureproof you know,Let's say if you play in five years from now how the two drives will perform,
Because the '950-PRO' is 1 bit for sell '' SLC '' and 5 Year or 200TBW!
And the '' 960-EVO '' is 2 bit for sell '' TLC '' and 3 Years or 100 TBW
I would be happy for any suggestion

Many thanks

I have a 512 Gb 950 Pro and the 250 Gb 960 Evo. The Evo has better sequential read/write specs. The Evo comes out better running the Samsung Magician benchmark tool. In real life work like processing Blu Ray files of 20 - 50 Gb, I consistently get better throughput with the 950. I read a recent review that was negative regarding the 250 Gb 960 Evo (after I had purchased and installed it).

I would definitely lean to Pro versions for an OS drive for a heavily used machine...

The PRO uses better memory which will last longer under heavy usage conditions. That having been said, the EVO is a great option for 95% of users as you'll likely never keep it long enough to wear out the memory anyway.

In my opinion, I'd go with the PRO as it's a bit cheaper and comparable speed. But, all in all they aren't that different.

That having been said, I'd weight carefully the size you're getting. In my experience SSDs in the 250Gb size range end up being too small unless you've got another drive to dump the big media files onto. So if you plan on it being a one drive system you might consider a larger SSD.
