Can't boot to Win10 after plugging HDAudio (the case connector) into Mobo.

Case: NZXT s340
Mobo: ASRock B250M-HDV LGA 1151
PSU: Seasonic S12II 620 Bronze
HD: WD10EZEX
OS: Windows 10
CPU: Kaby Lake i5 7500
GPU: MSI RX 480 gaming x 4gb
2 sticks of ddr4 crucial ram (2x4gb)

I powered down the system and turned PSU switch off, plugged in HD Audio connector from case and boot would get to BIOS but would not boot to Windows. It would stop with just a blinking dash line at top left of screen and stay that way.

I powered down, unplugged the HD Audio and then was able to boot to Windows. So I figured I would try again, that maybe I had not plugged in all the way before. Same result only this time :( after removing the HD Audio connector I could not boot to Windows 10 now.

Even with the HD Audio unplugged from the motherboard as was the case originally now I can't boot to windows. It gets to BIOS fine and the hard drive shows up in the bios but it will not boot past BIOS to Windows 10. It gets to blank screen with blinking dash in top left and stays that way.

The system was running fine for 2 months without the HD Audio plugged in. I usually never plug that in anyway but just got a cheap headset with the old style jack and needed it. This all started the moment I tried to plug in the HD Audio from the NZXT s340 case.

All the hardware is brand new.

Troubleshooting steps I am planning next:
1. unplug USB 3.0 connector and try again
2. use different PSU (I have two other working ones)
3. use different Hard drive
4. plug s340 case into another board (not of course the HD Audio though), just the power switch to see if things will boot to Windows.

Unfortunately I don't have another 1151 slot motherboard to test with. One thing I know I am not going to do is plug in the s340's HD Audio into another board.

But before I go any further i was just wondering if anyone recognized something like this situation and might be able to shed some light on it.

Any suggestions.

Yeah by default I am going to purchase the cheapest full ASUS ATX motherboard I can find (new) on newegg and replace the ASRock with that with everything else the same minus the scary HDAudio connector from the s340 case.

A separate Kaby Lake based system was already in the cards. If stuff works with the new ASUS board, then I will RMA the ASRock immediately after that and will have the extra board for when I eventually pull the trigger on the other hardware for the extra system.

Honestly I don't feel like RMAing the s340. I will just get another headset with a USB connector and give this one to my nephew.

Should I be concerned that the s340's other connectors might cause some problem. Let's assume hypothetically that the HD Audio connector hurt my motherboard.(not likely). Is there any reason to think that the minimal circuitry in the case's front panel housing is somehow integrated and thus able to still cause problems. Or is each connector its own thing?

I plan to keep the case and just not use the HD Audio.

Ok suddenly I can boot to Windows again. Here is all I did and have no idea how that affected things. I just unplugged a bunch of stuff, left it unplugged for 15 minutes, and plugged it all back in.

1. PSU power chord
2. Front panel USB mobo connector
3. 2-pin power switch connector
4. DVI chord, ethernet cable, mouse and keyboard USB connectors and 5.1 audio to mobo jacks

Anyway because I noticed that I was able to get to the BIOS (just not past that) is there a chance that I might have had to change something in the BIOS to resolve this stalled boot to windows problem. That is just a question. I don't plan on trying to plug the HD Audio in again. My system works again and I want to keep it that way.

There has to be an issue with the front panel I/O that causes a short. Just keep that HD audio cord away from everything lol.
