So... I think I fried something, but I'm not sure.

Hello there. I've come here via Bing search quite a few times over the years and I've always found extremely helpful advice, but this particular problem is somewhat specific so i figure I'll try posting my own little thread...

I recently upgraded to a GTX1060 and I've been loving it. I've been using a main monitor via HDMI and a side monitor via DVI cable both from the graphics card. Last night I was trying to untangle the rats nest of wires behind the PC and I accidentally pulled upwards a little too hard on the DVI cable. When I did, both monitors went black and the fans on the graphics card started running at hyper speed. I mean obnoxiously fast - faster than I've ever seen a PC fan run. I think they gave my dremel a run for it's money. Obviously I hit the power switch on the PSU as fast as I could. I unplugged the DVI monitor, turned the computer on and it booted fine. Shut it down, tried plugging the DVI monitor back in, and same thing. Soon as I hit power on the fans go into hyper drive and the PC won't even POST (Or it may be POSTing but I can't see it).

I figured "fine, f*ck it." and I just put that monitor to the side. Everything worked fine the rest of the night, but today while playing Diablo 3 the PC will randomly just turn off, like the power was unplugged. It will immediately restart and everything will be fine, no error, no crash recovery, nothing.

So... I've either fried my graphics card or fried my PSU... Any troubleshooting suggestions to narrow it down? Any ideas if this is fixable? Thanks!

Solution
sounds like you pulled the card loose a bit from the slot, did you try reseating the card by fully removing it and putting it back in.
