Just to counter the anecdotal experiences for WD and against Seagate above, if you look at the 2016 Backblaze data you'll see that their WD drives were almost twice as likely to fail as Seagate drives in 2016: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-reliability-stats-q1-2016/
I actually work in research to pay the bills and I'm well aware that it's totally irresponsible to look at the headlines on that report and use it to define the reliability of an entire brand. But... that's still better than taking anecdotal evidence from people who've used what, 5 drives? 10? 50, even 200!? Whatever it is, it's not enough to quantify the reliability of a brand.
I come back to what I said originally, back it up, buy for the warranty if you're worried about drive failure... remember no data is safe if it's not backed up (and, ideally, stored somewhere else).
