Hi guys

I have a new pc built around the MSI Z270 Tomahawk Artic motherboard with 32gb of corsair 3200mhz RAM and i7 7700K CPU.

In the BIOS I have the XMP profile switched on but the ram is still only running at 1333mhz. I've updated the BIOS but no joy.

Is there anything else I can try? Would you just set manually?

Solution
Right, I just got sight of it on their support site.

I assume you flashed the BIOS manually off a pen drive? If not, then might be worth it in reflashing. Another thing to do would be to manually set the timings within BIOS provided you know the timings alongside that 3200MHz number. You'll find the info on the sticker on the sticks of ram. If you're unsure, then pass on a link to the ram kit(listing it on your specs would've removed this step).

So let me get this right, you're sure the ram is being reported within BIOS/CPU-Z as DDR4-1333MHz? That is physically not possible since DDR4 speeds begin from 2133MHz or otherwise, their halves when looking at CPU-Z's memory tab.

DDR = Dual Data Rate so any number you get, multiply that with two. e.g, 1333MHz within CPU-Z means 2666MHz.

For the sake of reference, please pass on your full system's specs inclusive of your OS. List them as:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
OS:

Well clearly I must be mistaken in saying 1333mhz but its definitely not 3200mhz. I'm not in front of the PC now so I can't double check.

Spec

CPU: 7700K
Motherboard: z270 MSI Tomahawk Artic
Ram: Corsair 3200mhz 32gb LPX
SSD/HDD: x2 M.2 x3 SSD and x1 Mechanical
GPU: 1080Ti
PSU: EVGA 850Watt G2
OS: Windows 10 latest build

You're welcome! I think the Best Answer was selected prematurely since this isn't yet the solution for you. In fact I assume since this platform is yet new, you might need to wait for future BIOS revisions to help you get to DDR4-3200MHz if the current BIOS won't allow you to get there.

Regardless, try it and get back to us!

Fair point, I've unmarked it. I'll try and report back. Not had the chance to fully have a play with the system yet. I would like to try to overclock my CPU too. Anyway I'll deal with this first.
