I don't completely know what else to do but try asking here;

I have a crossover cable (Cat6) I want to use to connected my desktop (W7 Ult) and laptop (W7 Home Pre) so I can do something like file transfer or what have you, like their on their on the same network so I can just click into one from the other. I've read some stuff about having to change IPs and etc but I didn't think I would need to do that just to make them act like PnP (They are techincally on the same subnet as it is, wirelessly).

Possible? Ideas? Refering articles? I've spent a few hours trying to look stuff up to no avail with nothing really solid that's worked.

I tried that article, which didn't help at all. I use to get prompts but nothing worked to login. Plus I believe it ignored my ethernet for my wifi and with my wifi turned off, did nothing.
