Is there any appreciable difference between these cards (Asus Strix OC 1080TI and Gigabyte 1080 TI Gaming OC)

I have been watching the Strix every 5 minutes for 3 days and haven't been able to get one:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814126186&cm_re=1080_ti-_-14-126-186-_-Product

So instead I got this Gigabyte card that is available now:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125955&cm_re=1080_ti-_-14-125-955-_-Product

Will I notice any appreciable difference and was this a good choice? I know the clock is speed is like 30 mhz lower, but I figured that wasn't a huge difference

I'm thinking 5 fps difference would be roughly what you're looking at (and that might be pushing it) if you added more to the OC. If you were to put them to the test right now, I'm pretty confident you'd see an fps increase of maybe 2-3 tops (in a 4K environment). Hard to say as there's really only comparisons to the FE card, but from previous releases, that's my estimate. But hey, them cool LEDs!
a ''ti'' is a stronger card . what is the CPU your using ??

like my cpu

as you see not much in my opinion in that like with a i7 4790

still not by no leaps and bounds

[ I use non ''K'' cpu's so cpu overclocking don't affect the GPU scores ] and [ Number of GPUs =1 ]

Sorry beg your pardon I'm a ding dong - I meant to say they are BOTH 1080 TIs - it's just different brands - a strix oc vs gigabyte oc

I definitely want to get a 1080 ti but just wondered if there was any difference between these two as people on reddit seem to swear by the Strix and poo poo other cards

i have a i7-7700k OC'd to 4.7ghz

The Strix has a higher default overclock than the Gigabyte, and uses two x8pin connectors for more power. OC'd higher with more OC potential. But I honestly don't think it warrants the price difference of $80-100 right now, espeically if you don't plan to OC any extra.

So in short, yes, the Strix is supreme, but the price isn't warranted for most people.

Thanks Kyle. I run at 1440p and have a i7-7700k at 4.7ghz / Intel SSD 730 / 3400mhz ddr4 ram.

Are we realistically talking about a difference or more than 5fps for all the OC headroom between my gigabyte and the Strix you think?

in the end there just 1080 ti's if you don't get a lemon card that asus will do you fine and dandy

I do tend to think the better out of the box clocking for the price point is important what pay 500 bucks for a 1000mhz card when a 1250 card is 520 ??

I just pay the extra 20 for the 1250 cause that's the lowest guaranteed clock from the manufacture where the 1000mhz card you have to overclock to maybe get that ''maybe '' if luck of the draw is on your side

all comes down to personal preferences and experiences and price points or sales , but I try to go with the strongest out of the box clocked card

see

''Are we realistically talking about a difference or more than 5fps for all the OC headroom between my gigabyte and the Strix you think? ''

any one of them card could bee a strong overclocker but then they may not take any oc at all ?? that's why you try to go for the highest guaranteed speced minimum card

all your guaranteed is what the cards are factory speced for not a drop more

like my card is speced for 1250 boost but stock out of the box it boostes to 1375 but all evga guarantees is that 1250 any thing less then that is defective card and can be RMA'ed

I understand but the Strix is not available. it's not a matter of money - I'd pay $200 extra but a GTX 1080 TI is $700 for the Gigabyte OC which I can get now. Strix is scalping for $1200-1300 on EBAY and newegg told me they won't have more for a week or two and I'm sure those will go in 5 minutes
