i have heard in many threads that if you are NOT overclocking a cpu, then the base cooler you have will work with all cpu's. is this true? as admittedly i have been a bit of an idiot bought the new ryzen 7 18000x and have realised that this version does not come with an air cooler. the cpu i currently have is the amd a8-6600k running on the gigabyte f2a68hm-hd2 which is an fm2+ socket. the mother board i have bought is the ASUS PRIME B350M-A which is an am4 socket which is what i need.

my question is this:
if i were to buy an am4 bracket for my current base cooler would it fit in the bracket and would the fan cool the cpu on 100%?

again I AM NOT OVERCLOCKING.

The A8 6600K has a 100w TDP, and should ship with a cooler capable of dissipating 100w. The 1800x has a 95w TDP, and so should in theory work with the same cooler. However, you're probably going to spend more on an adapter than you would on a better cooler. Additionally, AMD has historically treated TDPs as... somewhat malleable. It would not surprise me if the 1800x regularly exceeded its TDP, so I would suggest instead spending $15-20 on something like a Cryorig M9i.
