Hard drive partially corrupted or faulty?

I've had this HDD for over a year now. It is not my boot drive, and it is mostly used for saving games and such. Recently, it became undetected and I had to restart my PC and "repair" it through windows. It worked for the night, and when I got up this morning my steam updates were "corrupted" or "failed to write on disk". I check on my drives and the hard drive files do not show up, but it does say its detected and how much space has been used. I'm not sure how to repair it, any help would be great.

*Update: After restarting my computer twice, my HDD fails to show up on task manager.

Solution
Symptoms of a dying hard drive unfortunately. Back up the files on another HDD asap. This one doesn't seem like it's long for this world.

Thought so, but should I take it out of my PC to try and preserve it? It isn't being detected at the moment.

If it's not being detected, what is there left to preserve? :)

But yes, take it out. These things are random. Might just get detected when you connect it later on to try to make those backups.

Alright, thank you very much! I'll see if I can post an update.

But even if it does work again, I would just get any data off it that you need ASAP, then dump it.
Don't continue to use it as it will almost certainly let you down again in the very near future.

Start a new thread if you've any updates to post as this thread is now tagged as "Solved", but by all means include a link to this thread so you don't have to repeat everything that's been said thus far.
