So I was just overclocking my gpu with msi afterburner and heaven benchmark and set the memory clock from 300 to 400. The screen had green squares all over it! Then I waited a bit and the screen repositioned itself a little off and so I just shut it down using the on/off button. Then when I turn it back on, it looks fine until I go to heaven benchmark. The app was playing at 5fps! I tried overclocking it and it seemed to not have a difference at all; still around 5fps. please help!

Most of the cards are equipped with a passive heatsink for cooling; not exactly great for overclocking. Just make sure you're following good procedures, along the lines of what this fellow does with his GT 710.

I worry you might be jumping in too high of increments at a time without testing for stability.

Try shutting down, unplugging the system power and monitor, and reseating your graphics card. Then fire it up and see if the problem persists.

Note: Make sure you're not on carpet. Ground yourself before touching anything.

MSI Geforce GT 710

I used the default settings for heaven benchmark and it ran at about 10fps before the accident.

Are you sure you didn't change any settings in Heaven? Honestly, that's an incredibly weak card, it wouldn't surprise me if it only gets around 5 fps normally if you're running Heaven with high settings. A GPU like that isn't really meant for gaming, better used for regular desktop use in systems that lack integrated graphics.
