Is it necessary to buy an External cooler with Graphics card?

I bought a new Nvidia Graphics card and it doesn't have any cooler or fan on it.Is it necessary to buy and external cooler for it ? [Also it is written in the terms and conditions of Card that Warranty will not be provided if any modification is done]

Really depends on the GPU. 3-4 Years ago I had a Geforce Asus 210 Gt. It had passive cooling with just a black block on one side for passive cooling. It completely depended on passive cooling but hey It depends on GPU to GPU.
