Standoffs and Motherboard screws

I bought the Rosewill Challenger X a few months back and it was pretty crappy from the start.
The motherboard screws didn't really fit with the standoffs, being very lose inside and wouldn't even stay in unless screwed in most of the way, causing me to not be able to put my motherboard in. I have the standoffs, but are the screws really that important in their shape? why do they have to be flat? I have other screws for the case, can I use those?

Solution
PCs typically have only two sizes of screws: one has fine threads used for the floppy and optical drives, the other has a wider diameter with coarse threads and is used for just about all other mechanical supports such as HDDs, IO brackets, PSU, etc. Motherboard standoffs may use either style and that varies between case manufacturers or even between models.

Use whatever standoffs match your case's motherboard try and then use whatever screws fit on those. The motherboard doesn't care what the thread pitch is, the holes are more than large enough to accommodate the bigger coarse thread screws and the only concern is the head size not exceeding safe clearance to PCB traces around the holes.

The female threads on the standoffs have to match the male threads on the screws.
And if the screws are not fully screwed in, they will be loose.

'other screws'? Completely unknown, because we do not know what these other screws are.

I used the right screws but I can't screw them all in, I get like 3 done and then the rest just spin in the standoffs and fall out.

and by other screws I mean others that came with the case

Sounds like you're using the wrong ones.

And cases come with several size screws. "others" means nothing.

The screws I used are the designated motherboard screws. They are very loose inside, but are the ones designated by the case manual.

They slide in about half way before they even require to be screwed in.

Then you have the wrong screws

OK then....(this will require a flashlight and good eyeballs)

Look inside the standoffs.
Where do the threads start? Right at the top, or a little way down?

This is just a screw and threads...it isn't rocket science.
