I have a amd a10 7890k APU with a palit geforce 1050ti GPU on a fm2+ mobo with 8gb of RAM.

Is this enough for gaming? What else can i do to improve my performance in gaming. Is it recommended upgrading to 16gb RAM?

No you will need a new Motherboard depending on which i5 you get. If you go for a modern i5 you will need new DDR4 RAM too. An i5 would would be a good idea for games like BF1 which very much utilise quad cores. If you get a i5 7xxx the newest you will need a B250/H270/Z270 Motherboard and i would suggest the B250 since you are on a budget. A B250 Board + 8GB DDR4 and i5 7500 would be a great combo if you can afford it. If you can expand more then 16GB RAM and...

If you have the budget, i would upgrade your CPU to something stronger. An i5 6xxx or 7xxx would be a great choice for Gaming but if your budget is limited a Pentium G4560 is a powerful budget CPU and competes with the AMD FX 6350 for only $59 US. The best thing to do would be wait until Ryzen 5 comes out in a few weeks and see what that brings to the table before touching your CPU but that is by far the best upgrade for Gaming. 16GB would be alright but i wouldn't bother if you are going to upgrade the CPU. Hope this helps :)

Would a i5 CPU be compatible with my mobo?
The games i would want to play on max settings are online games like, League of Legends, Dota2, Warframe, and maybe some COD Infinite or Battlefield 1 on high settings would do. I get around 100fps on league at max settings

If it's too much you might want to save up more so you can get a good upgrade worth the cash or wait for Ryzen 5 to come out soon before making any decisions. :)
