Is it my GPU or monitor? Shadows turn blue with white dots? (in game)

Hey techies

I have encountered a problem I just cannot seem to fix, I recently bought a new PC and Monitor.
however every time I play something, my display gradually gets taken over by "blue".
(An example): Im playing Dying Light, everything is great, but after 5 minutes I start to notice that a blueish auora is starting in the shadows.. within 10 minutes it is also in the sky or at several other textures. I turn off my monitor and turn it on again, and its gone.. however, it just starts all over. It has done it in all games I have played.

What could it be? Im thinking it might be my monitor since the problem disapears when I restart the monitor. Could it be the GPU? - Thing is I'm running a Nvidia GTX 1070 @8GB, most games shouldn't be a problem. Another reflection of mine is; I bought a MSi Monitor with Freesync instead of Nvidia G-sync (Bcus... money) but I've read several places that this just means I cant use the freesync feature, the refresh is still a 144hz I saw... So yeah.. what could be the problem? I wanna be able to game without having to turn my monitor on and off all the time.. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

EDIT: Took some pics to show what Im talking about: http://imgur.com/a/emXqk

Solution
An easy way to tell is to take a screenshot of the problem. If it appears in the screenshot, it probably the PC/graphics card. If it doesn't it is most likely the monitor.
I need some more info before i can give a correct answer
Full pc specs?
What exact monitor are you using?
What cable do you use between monitor and GPU(Are you using any adapters?)?
What is the temp of your GPU and CPU when the problem occurs?
Have you tried updating your GPU drivers with GeForce Experience?

Yes, all video drivers are up to date.

Specs are:
Intel Core i5-6400 CPU @ 2.70
Nvidia GTX 1070, 8 GB
1 TB harddisk, 128 GB SSD
16GB DDR4 @ 2 133 Mhz
OS: Win10

Monitor: Msi Optix G27C 27"

The cable between GPU and monitor is a DisplayPort

Checked the GPU, temp was fine in a stress test.

Of all the games I have tried, yes. but the frequency of it depends on the hardware demand of the games I'd say.
It has happened in League of Legends, where it was like a blue filter, but this has only happened twice in the two weeks I've had the PC.
In games like the Witcher 3 or Dying Light this happens frequently. Whenever I tab out into windows/desktop there's nothing.
- Yes it is most noticable in dark areas, especially in Dying Light when it becomes night, you would think it was supposed to be dark, but instead everything is just tinted blue. when I turn on my flashlight I get somewhat normal graphics but outside of the light, Its just blueish

Sadly I cannot find any information on the PSU as this is a prebuild one! (Lenovo Y710 Cube)

Your problem sounds similar to a problem I experienced. Can't remember my two colors. I just remember the red dots. a LOT of them. Not just a few city stars. It turned out to be my HDMI cable.

Please try the Screenshot troubleshooting step suggested above. F12 or Shift Print Screen.

Not going to jump to any conclusions just yet, but it *may* be a some kind of Freesync vs Nvidia problem. I would rule out problem with cable - the same problem would appear when not gaming if cable was to blame. But of course checking screenshot trick is mandatory here anyway.

I would also check NVidia Control Panel if all is correctly set there.

Screenshots turned out normal. It might be my monitor :(

Here's some pictures I took on my phone to showcase my problem : http://imgur.com/a/emXqk

Tried the screenshot method and it turned out normal, I guess it has to be the monitor sadly..

I just never heard there were any problems with Nvidia G-sync vs AMD freesync, if you left out the option of turning it on.

Yeah. that doesn't look like any type of artifacting i've ever seen
I'm gunna go ahead and agree that the screenshot method was a great idea.

Try fiddling with the monitor settings. The monitor might be trying to enable Freesync and failing to do so. Try pushing in the power cable instead of turning it off. My current monitor is a refurb and I thought it was failing because it would show me these epic scrolling white lines. Turned out it was just the power cord.

Chances are it's totally borked tho
sorry about your monitor :(!
Check the warranty status. Maybe you can still RMA?

I recommend SinxarKnights' answer

Surprise. Why it does not happen outside game then?

Neither did I, but that does not mean it could not happen.

Now if you could drop link to those screenshots too ...

This really makes it seem like the pixels are failing to display proper blacks. Especially since you say it starts to appear on shadows. Witcher 3 and Dying light are some very dark games.
R.I.P. Monitor :(

Note You're right about there being nothing wrong with using a freesync/gsync monitor with the feature disabled. Once you disable it, it is just another monitor.

I vote for the CABLE connecting your GFX card to the monitor. No so sad :D. Your issue is identical to mine save the colors.

You make a good argument. ;)
I suppose it's not entirely solved just yet then.

From link: "Restarting the driver could clear the static temporarily."
I guess you learn every day.

Well, at this point good test would be to connect different monitor/TV and see what happens.

They are indeed dark games yes, I guess I will have to return the monitor :( - Thank you for your time :)

Did you try any of the above suggestions to rule out the monitor as well? Such as replacing the cable (this is a big one as there are a lot of super low quality DP cables with improper pin-outs, ive experienced this one personally) or using a different device to test it on like a different monitor or TV?
