Hey guys, I made an account to ask you guys if you can help me. So i was gifted 16 GB DDR3 RAM for my computer. I have an asus p5g41c-m lx motherboard with a q6600. this machine has been going strong for a year and a bit now. I tried to install the 2x8 sticks in the DDR3 slots but nothing happens. the cpu fan spins, the gpu fan spins. everything works but nothing boots up. I cant see what the problem is as the q6600 supports 16 gb ram. could you guys please help.

if it helps, I had 4 GB DDR2 before and when i tried it again, it boots up normally. I tried resetting the CMOS but it still does not work.

BTW the ram is 16 gb transcend

Solution
LEGO:

the problem is each stick of ram must be no bigger than 4GB and only Speed up to 1333mhz you have 8GB stick and 1600 MHZ, you have the wrong RAM, you motherboard doesn't support the ram you have.

as per Asus web site: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P5G41CM_LX/specifications/

2 x DIMM, Max. 8 GB, DDR3 1333(O.C.)/1066/800 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
2 x DIMM, max. 8 GB,DDR2 1066 (O.C.) / 800 / 667 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered memory Dual Channel memory architecture
[/b]
*DDR3 and DDR2 memory can not be used simultaneously
*Use DDR3 memory modules on the black slots and DDR2 memory modules on the blue slots." [/b]

so 2x4GB or 8GB total ram, Only DDR2 or DDR3 not both. you ram is not compatible

** Refer to www.asus.com or user manual for Memory QVL (Qualify Vendor List)
*** When installing total memory of 4GB capacity or more, Windows® 32-bit operation system may only recognize less than 3GB. Hence, a total installed memory of less than 3GB is recommended.
Found here.

So you can logically use two 4GB sticks of ram to get a total of 8GB's to work on your platform, not 16GB. I assume your motherboard BIOS is up to date?

Mind sharing the make and model of the ram kit? Or rather a link to the ram kit?

I tried running each stick by itself as well.
