I've been using the Razer Kraken's 7.1 chroma for almost 3 years and they have finally died on me. I'm wanting a new headset and willing to spend up to $150 (maybe a tad more if they are worth it) AUD for one. I'm looking for something that will be comfortable for long sessions, good sound, and a good microphone, basically a upgrade to what I've been using is what i'm trying to find.

Cheers.

Kingston HyperX Cloud II?

USB driven headsets take a stereo source and virtually upmix it to surround sound so if you're looking to stay pure analog then either look at Razer's Tiamat(for surround) or the Kingston Hyper X Cloud (I).

I've had a look at the HyperX Cloud II, but it didn't seem as an upgrade to the krakens 7.1 that I had, and I heard the microphone isn't that great.
Unless I've looked a bad review, i'm not sure.

The HyperX Cloud II is actually an amazing headset as it has very good sound and is built to last.

I think the biggest question for you would be "do you need 7.1 surround sound headphones?" If that is a yes then the HyperX are not the right fit for you. The issue with 7.1 surround sound headphones is that they generally lack clarity and the sound stage feels artificial. A good set of stereo headphones combined with a good game with proper sound will always beat 7.1 surround headphones as stereo is how we hear things naturally. Proper sound simply modifies the timing of the sound between the two drivers giving our ears an illusion of distance and direction. At this time no 7.1 surround headset has been able to beat proper stereo surround sound.

Ok, so I did some looking around and found a couple of options and would like your guys opinions on them. I found the Razer Kraken 7.1 v2, Audio Technica ATH-PDG1 Headset, or maybe a good headset for $80-$100 + a modmic. How do these compare against HyperX cloud II, and which one of these would you say has the better audio, and the better microphone quality?

Sorry for my late reply (this is not my job :)

I can certainly vouch for the sound quality from the Audio Technica. Their headsets are very good. However, I cannot provide any input on the quality of their headset microphones. Have you tried to read reviews on the specific models you list above?
