XMP Not Working After Upgrading From 16GB to 32GB

Hi All!

So I recently upgraded my rig from 16GB DDR4 (2x8GB) to 32GB DDR4 (4x8GB).

I am using Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 ram which OC's to 3000 Mhz. My motherboard is the ASUS Prime Z720-A.

When I had the original setup of 16GB, just two sticks of 8GB each, I could use XMP on my motherboard and everything went perfectly. However, after adding two more sticks of 8GB (4x8GB), now XMP is causing post failures and my motherboard is having to start in safe mode. If I turn XMP off, everything runs fine, but my ram is only running at 2133MHz.

Any thoughts on what could be the issue?

Solution
That happens when adding 2 stick kit to another 2 stick kit - even if you have exactly the same kits. Looks like those 2 kits can't work together in stable manner on XMP settings.
Possible solutions:
-try second XMP profile if possible
-enter settings manually, perhaps upping voltage just a bit - might require some amount of work to find out stable settings

Thanks for the response! Do you think I should return the new stick kit I just bought? I am still in the return window and can get them replaced.

Would it have been better to buy a whole 4x8GB kit to begin with?

Returning them is an option too, but there's chance any kit you get will have this problem - but also there is a chance it may work well - a matter of luck actually.
If buying 4 stick kit, you have a manufacturer warranty that all 4 will work together without any such problem. So this is preferred method, especially if using OC'ed ram (as you see yourself, they work non-OC without any problem).

Thanks! I ended up returning them, your info was very helpful. I think for now I am just going to stick with my original 16GB (2x8GB) kit and either get a whole new 4x8GB kit or 2x16GB kit in the future. I mainly only use my machine for gaming anyhow and I have never seen my ram usage go past 7 or 8GB when playing a game.
