New PC, Problems with Ethernet Connection

"Ethernet doesn't have proper IP Configuration" that's the error I keep getting. Originally, I could just unplug the ethernet cord from my modem and when I plugged it back in, the Internet would come back. This no longer is the case.

What I'm working with: New, self built PC, motherboard: MSI Z270 SLI Plus and ethernet connection via powerline adapter.

What I've tried: A lot.
- I've used the command prompt to flush the DNS, renew IP configuration
- I've tried resetting my modem
- Unplugging and then plugging back both powerline adapters
- Uninstalling the reinstalling motherboard drivers
- Resetting PC after doing all of the above.
- Looking at already asked question on the forum; none of them really mentioned powerline adapters.

No luck with any of those.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
Try with this:
IP Address: 192.168.0.10
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1

Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8

Once all is set, go open a cmd (windows key + R then on the run dialog box type cmd), and try pinging the router, ping 192.168.0.1, if successful try ping 8.8.8.8 if successful as well you should be able to browse and do whatever you want on internet.

I have had this problem before and what you want to do is. Follow these steps
1. go to control panel
2. then go to device manager
3. and then u should see enthernet or wifi 8something like that)
4. then uninstall it. Unplug ur eethernet cable and put it back in

Do powerline adapters have any status LED's? Check the LEDs and associated meanings.

However, the error message implies to me that there is a configuration error with respect to the computer's ethernet network adapter being used for wired connectivity.

Right click the Network icon most likely located lower righ screen corner. Small monitor like icon.

Two drop down menu choices:

1) Troubleshoot problem

2) Open Network and Sharing Center

Try the troubleshooter first - see what it finds and does.

Failing that go to 2) and locate your ethernet network adapter. Make sure that it is enabled.

Go into the network adapter setting and verify that you have correctly configured the adapter for your network.

I've been having this same issue for several months now. My issue happens randomly, but it does happen nearly every day I go online. Some days are a lot worse, but the issue usually resolves itself. I too have done everything that you have done to fix the problem. Maybe Comcast don't like me owning my own modem. Ever since I replaced theirs with my own, I've had connection problems. or, maybe there is an issue with my modem. I have a TP-Link cable modem. What modem do you have?

Does your ethernet interface have an IP assigned in first place? from cmd you can type ipconfig to check that or look under network and shared resources->change device settings->right click on your ethernet device->properties->select TCP/IP version 4 and click on properties.

If it doesn't have any IP address or it has something like 169.x.x.x then your pc doesn't have a valid IP so it cant connect to internet, if so either your ISP is not assigning you a Public IP address so the issue is with them, or your modem is a modem/router then its DHCP service is not giving your pc a dynamic IP, in such case you can put a static IP, usually 192.168.1.10 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and default gateway 192.168.1.1 should work.

Okay, the troubleshooter stuff I've done before, none of that worked. I've also tried the uninstalling ethernet, plugging it back in etc... That's a no go as well.

I have no way of getting Internet onto my computer without the power lines as the modem is on a different floor than my PC.

As for the LEDs, it's showing that I have a slow connection, but a connection nonetheless.

Now, I did indeed have an IP that was 169.x.x.x, but I went in and changed the numbers to your specifications, and it still didn't work.

Do you recommend calling my ISP now?

If the device you have is only a modem and meant to give internet only to your pc (that means you can't have any other device connected wired or wireless to it) then yes, your ISP seems to be the one not assigning a public IP to your pc.

However if you can connect via wireless then you have a modem/router creating a private subnetwork in your house, in that scenario you need to find out which IP range is using, if your cellphone gets internet via wifi you can check its IP values (how to differs from device to device) as an example your phone could have 192.168.0.13 so you would put to your pc the next value 192.168.0.14 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.0.1. Its possible you will find the subnet mask and default gateway info also in your cellphone so you can simply place them exactly as they are into your pc.

Yes, it's a 2-in-1 router/modem. And I'm posting from phone that's connected to the WiFi of the same network. I found the IP of my phone, but couldn't find the Subnet or default gateway so that resulted in the Internet not working on the PC still.
