WD MyPassport 2TBHD External 3.0 USB with 3.0 cable
I've troubleshooted the following.
Plug in and have power (LED light)
Sound notification of USB being plugged in.
Won't show up in My computer or Device Manager.
In Device Manager I scan for hardware changes and it pops up in Disk Drives and below USB Controllers.
It also appears, at this point in the control panel under devices and printers.
Check properties and its up to date and says its "working properly" but I call bs.
Still not in My computer.
Click create and format hard disk partitions and receive 2 options (I've tried both)
It then proceeds with an error message box titled Virtual Disk Manager and next to the red X in the center of the box displays error message- The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
After clicking ok, I can see it labeled as Disk#1 in Disk Management.
Under the name, where it shows disk size it says unknown and Not Initialized.

This is my second passport hd and both have given me nothing but trouble once I load my digital movies on to them. I thought it was my old slow laptop so I upgrading to a desktop that's muuuuch newer and still the same results with these things.
Please help. I'm at wits end.

If the data on the drive is valuable, you should stop and seek professional data recovery assistance. Although the passport drives have their issues, they are usually recoverable by the professionals.

Where are you located on this planet? I can do my best to recommend an affordable, reputable lab in your region.

Try another USB 3.0 cable. Preferably a USB 3.0 cable known to be working.

Try other USB devices in the same ports to see if those devices and the ports work.

Try the WD MyPassport 2TBHD on another computer or two. See if the problem follows the drive.

The objective is to narrow down the list of possible problems.

By locked you mean it is not accepting your admin password?

Or maybe some share problem/configuration issue with respect to the new desktop?

Per forum rules we cannot help with hacking into anything.

You will either have to remember your admin password and/or double-check any shares that were created.

when i plug my 6 year old 1tb passport in i get the wd software auto play screen . I click it and it eventually prompts me for password....
With my 2 TB it doesn't prompt for anything. I downloaded wd security to diagnose it and when you click erase drive it says 5 password attempts were incorrectly entered and its locked. I only set up a password on my old one NOT the new one. So how did it lock itself.
After hours of reading pretty much everyone that owns one of these (from what i read) has had this happen to them and they lost there stuff. Like i said before the stuff on this HD is IRREPLACEABLE and must be retrieved!
PS no one said hack anywhere but you. I just want my data, I'll burn the thing afterwards.
I'm thinking a recovery specialist?
I had my computer guru buddy over here yesterday for hours and he had no luck.
