Hello,
Here is the situation,
I have a pc, it's slow so I bought a new one. I never reinstalled the OS on the old pc, which means I never used the Product Key on it's sticker.

So now when Im using the CD to install Windows XP on the new Pc, I use the Product Key from the old pc which was never used, but it says Product ID is invalid.

On the Sticker of the old pc it says "Windows XP Professional 1-2 CPU HP"
And the installer from the CD is Windows XP Professional.

Any ideas? Or should the product key straight up not work on other computers?..

Ps. The new pc case says "Dell" and it's OS is Windows 10.

Thanks

That OEM product key was very likely originally installed on the system to which the sticker was affixed (even if you didn't install it). Sounds like you need to buy a new, valid license. Also, I would recommend you use something a bit more modern than XP anyway.

1. Just turning the old PC on...you used the license key.
2. That license key is tied to that original system
3. If the new PC came with Win 10, there are likely no Win XP drivers for any of the hardware.

I didn't use it. I heard somewhere that when you buy a new computer with an OS already in it, it has to be activated by a code they insert, but not the one that comes on the sticker, that one should be used to reinstall the OS. (Just what I heard)

I used a program called ProduKey that tells me keys used (On the old PC) and none of them were the product key on the sticker.

My dad keeps saying he used to do this when a pc died, just get a new one and use the Key from the dead one...

If the new PC didn't have the necessary drivers it would just give me a bluescreen even before instalation, not Invalid ID, right?

It says Invalid license key because it is an Invalid license key.
It is tied to that original hardware.

Don't know or care what you heard, or where you heard it...you cannot use that OEM XP license on different hardware.
