I built an HTPC from my old gaming rig and its running pretty loud (when running KODI) and the case is warm to the touch. I have a stock AMD heatsink on the processor (my old heatsink cant fit into HTPC case) and two 80mm fans that came with the case. I dont really know standard temps for the components of my HTPC...

I am wondering the best course of action to take...

1. Buy a new low profile heatsink
2. Buy new case fans (and a new heatsink?)
3. Is my set up just going to be loud in general bc of the parts I have??
4. My temps seem fine and I can lower the fan speed in BIOS

CASE: Apevia X-Master https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144231

*NOTE* If a new heatsink is suggested, I prefer one where I do not have to take the mobo out to add a backing plate. The case is VERY snug as it has a full ATX mobo in it and its quite a pain to put back together...

THANKS!!

Well if you want it to be quieter, underclock, a lot.

A larger CPU cooler will help, however, they almost always will require installing a backplate.

80mm fans are pretty notorious for being loud, replacing them with quieter ones will reduce airflow. As an experiment you can wire them up to 7V and see if they still do a decent enough job. (Use 12V as positive, but 5V+ as negative)

Since the max cooler height isn't listed, but I do see a 120mm fan mount in the chassis and the case itself is about 140mm thick, you can assume you have somewhat less then 120mm to play with (Motherboard thickness to account for)

Cooler recommendations, well, probably things like the Cryorig C7 or C1 would be up there. You can check others here:

You can measure from the base of the cpu cooler to the case panel and see what your max CPU cooler height is.
