Hi guys, I have an older computer that the motherboard has unfortunately gone bad on. I need to replace the motherboard but I do not want to have to buy any other new hardware. I have a Gamer Xtreme i220 and everything there is exact to my build. My current motherboard is a p8z68-v lx. I was looking at an Intel based mother board to replace it, the DQ67sw to be specific. There are links at the bottom to specify, and I will answer any questions promptly. Anyways, I hope you guys can tell if everything will switch over without issue, and if you have any better motherboards in mind I welcome suggestions.

If you get a z68 motherboard then the probability of it being fine without reinstalling windows is high, the farther you deviate from it the more likley it will not be unstable to flat out not even boot.

It really depends on what price you can get a replacement motherbaord for. I can tell you that you can get the new pentium g4560 (2 cores 4 threads so like an i3, a b250 motherboard and 8gb of DDR4 memory for aorund $180 USD. The 5 generations newer CPU while not a true quad core will still outperform your 2nd gen i5; naturally getting a kaby lake i5 or i7 is going to be even better.
You are going to want to get at least another z68 motherboard otherwise you will likely need to do a full windows reinstall.

Anytime you change chpets windows usually becomes unstable with your new hardware and the only solution is to wipe and reinstall windows with the new hardware.

So will I have to do that will all my current hardware if I choose to change motherboards? Overall if this is my only option, is it worth it instead of building a new pc?
