Okay, this post is for me to help my brother out. He currently has a realtek pcie gbe family controller and wants to upgrade. Now, we do not know much about buying a new network card or also about how to install it. I was hoping someone could help me on which one to buy and how to install it.

Here are his pc specs.

Motherboard : ASRock m3A770DE http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/M3A770DE/
CPU : AMD Phenom II X4 955e @ 3.2 Ghz
RAM : 8GBs of DDR3 RAM
Video Card : NVIDIA Geforce GTX 560
Power Supply : Thermaltake TR-600P TR2 Series ATX Power Supply - 600W Link

He's just looking for something that can run speeds above 100mbs. I guess nothing too pricey, just something that's good for the price. Also, I'm not sure if installing the card varies depending on mobos but i included it up top just in case.

Thanks.

Why is it needed the motherboards one is fine.

Well, he just wants the higher speeds because he works from home. The job he applied for required him to run a program to see his internet speeds and they were lower than what he said his isp provides. As well as speedtest.net. His internet package is something close to 200dl/20up or something like that and he's getting 50 dl / 5 up.

He contacted his isp and they told him to update his network card or buy a new one. He updated his Realtek driver through the Device Manager and he said it has not changed.

Then there is a problem with either the router or something else as the onboard card is a 10/100/1000mb card. It's more than capable of doing its work. Can you test the connection on another device?

He said that the wireless is working as intended, just his desktop that is hardwired to the router is not working correctly.

Hmm then there is either a problem with the router capping the speed of the cable or a really old cable is being used. What does windows report when he right clicks on his network adapter in the network tab in control panel?
