Hey everyone,

So this morning I started up my pc like normal, only to find that my Samsung 2TB hard drive started to beep and no display on the monitor. I do not know what to make out of this as when I unplugged my hard drive using only my SSD and it booted just fine. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Before you risk killing your drive, are you 100% sure that the files on that drive are not worth the basic costs of a professional data recovery lab? Personally, if your data is worth $300USD or more, than you would be wiser to contact a data recovery professional before it gets any worse.

Depending on what the beep is, it could be the heads bouncing back and forth because they are unable to read the surface, either due to failed heads or a physical head crash or it could be because the motor is trying to spin and cannot. If you put your ear against the drive, can you hear the drive spin up and then the heads start to move or does the noise happen almost instantly without any motor spin-up?

Does it show up in UEFI or BIOS? If not, it's a tough road ahead for data recovery. If UEFI or BIOS still sees it, you might consider a Puppy Linux usb or dvd boot and using its file manager to copy off data folders and files onto another external media. If you try any sort of data recovery software, use only the one-sector-pass function.

Thanks for all the replies. I do not hear anything like the motor spinning when I put my ear against it. All I hear is the relentless beeping sound coming from the hard drive. I also cannot access my BIOS when the hard drive is plugged in either. I spam the F2 button but nothing happens. The only things I have on it are some games and a bunch of past school work, but nothing too important. I was wondering if there is anything I can do before bring it to a professional recovery lab?
