Will molex to sata power be reliable?

I have a corsair psu, about two years old. However I cannot find a sata power cable on it - will a molex adapter to the job?

Also, I am trying to cram an i7-7700k, gtx 1060, and 16gb ram into a $930 dollar budget. I have a 75 dollar Best Buy card and an hdd - so that can help me save some money. Any suggestions on a build?

Solution
If a two year old PSU has no SATA power connector, only molex. I'd suspect that it is pure junk and would not use it on such high end parts. A PSU is not something you should cut corners on. Just sell it on eBay and get $20 for it.

The SSD in this build is available at Best Buy. So it will offset the cost of your build by $75 when you apply the gift card. Bringing it down to under $930 for everything else.

I like the look of the rog strix variant of the gpu and i can get it for about 280 on newegg. However it may be a bit out of my price point - any good gtx 1060 variants for $250?

If you really want to pinch pennies. Look through slickdeals.com. Also through resellers combo deals. It may save you enough to move up to a GTX 1070.

I7-7700K + MSI Z270-A Motherboard Combo (Newegg): $430 https://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.3441960

If you have a Microcenter nearby you can save even more on the CPU and Motherboard. As an i7-7700K is currently $299. You save an additional $30 on the motherboard when bought together. $385 before tax.

If you want another PSU. I'd stick with at least a 600W PSU and one which is on the Tier 1 or Tier 2 list.

The Sandisk SSD. At least it will pay for most of it. Every other part type is an absolute ripoff at Best Buy. If you don't want an SSD (which I recommend). The least ripoff would be 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 memory.

Whomever gave you the gift certificate. I'd let them know you'd rather have a VISA or Mastercard giftcard in the future. So you can use it at any store. At least Amazon Gift Card so that you can at least find a good deal. At least it wasn't an iTunes Gift Card.

Can an i5-7600k do light video editing? Thats really all I need for now and the gaming gains are minimal from i5 to i7.
Any other pluses to i7?

I can opt for an ASUS mobo (which I trust more than MSI) and the ssd will be more within my range.

I think GeekSquad is what lets them hang on. Their pricing is not as bad as it used to be. Components were often two or three times higher than online. Pricing which killed off The Good Guys, CompUSA, Circuit City, &c.

Microcenter has much closer to online pricing and a reasonable service department fee structure. Last I checked they'll match Newegg. You can buy all the parts there and pay them to build the computer. Without a huge premium. A considerable deal for someone that wants a high end gaming rig or custom office computer with an SSD. Who can't do it themselves or whose time is too valuable. Usually better pricing than the likes of online builders or business computer OEMs.

You're welcome. As for i5 vs i7 some games show some improvement. That improvement will likely continue to grow. So the biggest argument for an i7 is a longer useful life.

The Jet.com deal appears to apply to any first time purchase. Up to a $30 discount.

i7, it'll be cheaper to add an SSD later on than to upgrade to an i7 later on.

No, it is a very low quality Tier 4 unit. Just stick with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 PSU from the list provided. The Seasonic listed is about as cheap as you will get for a good quality PSU. Don't be tempted to cheap out on the PSU. If a PSU fails it can take out the entire computer. A high quality PSU will provide clean stable power. This can affect the reliability of other components.

Which is why I put the SSD on the list.

The next most cost effective use of the Best Buy Gift Card is to sell it for an Amazon Gift card. You'll lose less than $4 in the exchange and can use it for towards the RAM. Far less of a loss than the high priced Best Buy parts.

I've sold gift cards to Cardpool before.

I'm going to get the CPU and mobo today at the microcenter - I decided i5 is more than enough for my needs and I will be earning some money over the summer so I can upgrade if needed. Also, I won't be playing any insanely intensive games - just games like rocket league and overwatch
