Greetings!

I've been rocking the Asus Gtx 1080 Advanced....the lower tier on the OC edition. I understand that this card should have less OC potential than the OC but it seems my card is performing not as expected.

just want to know if I am expecting too much or there's a problem with my OC.

the card i have can only stable at +50mhz(core). whenever i run Firestrike (my gpu stress test of choice) and set the oc more than 50mhz on core, firestrike will crash when turbo boost hits.

my card has a boost of 1810 at stock. with my +50mhz OC, clocks boosts up to 1960+ if temps allow. I can see this in games. But firestrike crashes when boost hits more than 1960+.

max gpu temps in games/stress - 75 deg c

max cpu temps in games - 65-68 deg c

my other settings.
Power: 120%
Voltage: 100%
Temp Limit: 91 degree C
Fan: 50% @ 60 deg C, 80% @ 80deg, 100% @ 90+ deg C.

CPU: 5930k @ 4.6ghz
MB: X99 Sabertooth
RAM: 16gb 2400mhz
PSU: Corsair A860i Platinum

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

thank you!

I doubt its your gtx 1080 that is failing. You might have overclocked it a bit too much due to it not being OC.
If you want to overclock then get the OC, the cards without OC are meant to not be overcloekc that much

ahhh...so pretty much i reach this card's limit? sounds fair...as yes, this not the top tier version.

hmm that's weird. I have a 1080 STRIX AE and I run it with +139 core boost, +400 Memory boost, (same power/voltage settings as you) and it runs at around 2009mhz. It doesn;t crash through benchmarks. I got a score of 3013 in Heavens benchmark tool, with an average of 119.6FPS, MAX: 250.2FPS, MIN: 34.4FPS. So, I guess it depends on what 1080 AE you get. I got one that OC's nicely. It gets over 70degrees C when I play Dishonored 2, but stays around 50-60 with fans going full tack.

Greetings,

I was only having this limited OC on 3d Mark Firestrike as this is my stress test of choice. however, as most AE OC postings on the internet uses Heaven and/or furmark, i decided to give this a try.

And yes, my gtx 1080 strix was able to reach +130mhz on the core and 400/800mhz on the memory.

This however, does not surprise me as my gtx 970 have the same OC experience on both heaven and firestrike. I can ramp the Core clock higher in Heaven/Valley but would crash in firestrike.

I used firestrike as this program always give me the error most accurate results. if i fire a game and crashed or artifacts, i usually see those errors when i run firestrike again but on Heaven/Valley has no problem.
