So I have a MSI 970 GTX and been given Corsair LPX DDR4 2x8GB, so I'm kind of building around that, i have come to terms that I'm going to have to spend a bit of money but before i do i would like some advice from people more experienced than me (poping my cherry with this build).

CPU: From prices and many reviews i think i'm going for the i7 6700k seems to be the best value for money atm £300

Case: I quite like the NZXY S340 in Blue/Black for about £60

Cooling system: I think ive settled on the Corsair Cooling H60 for £ 70 (thoughts? I've seen mixed reviews) or is it really worth spending an extra £50 on the Corsair Hydro Series H100i?

Power Supply: Will any 650W do? dont want to spend more than like £80 but again, not sure what the difference is between different power supplies

Motherboard: this is where im really stuck, my next move will be a 1080 GTX graphics card at some point (not sure if relevant) but ive seen so many and dont really understand the differences a lot between them. I considered ASRock Z170 Pro4S but i feel that with the other bits im getting should i spend maybe £50 more and get something like a Asus Z170I Pro Gaming

Im a noob haha, just want to make sure before i spend like £600 i want to make sure i get it right and that it lasts me a long time, it will be used for 90% gaming.

Thanks a lot in advance

CPU: The i7-6700K and i7-7700K have nearly identical performance (when overclocked at the same clock rate). The advantage of the 7700K is potentially higher overclock settings. But it costs you in a more expensive CPU and having to buy a Z270 chipset motherboard. Generally, feature for feature a Z270 costs a little more than a Z170.

Case: The NZXT S340 is a good quality mid range case. The Elite series replaces the side panel with tempered glass. I'm not aware of any other differences.

Cooling: 120mm liquid cooling is garbage. They are noisier and don't perform as well as air cooling. While some 240mm or larger liquid cooling does better than big air (Noctua D15, Cryorig R1). It doesn't do so by much, costs more and is considerably...

It doesn't do so by much, costs more and is considerably louder. I recommend a Cryorig H5 Universal for a mid range cooler. On the high end you are limited by the width of the S340 case so I would get the Noctua D14 or Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3 (non-Pro).

If you want liquid cooling for the looks or to maximize cooling. The NZXT Kraken x61 or CoolerMaster H110i are much better deals than the H100i. They have more radiator surface area and larger fans. Roughley 1/3rd more surface area or 280mm x 140mm rather than 240mm x 120mm.

PSU: Not all PSU are created equal. Protect your investment and improve stability with a good Tier 1 or Tier 2 unit.

Motherboard: If you want good overclocking performance and the ability for future SLI. Get a good motherboard. Such as the MSI Z170A Krait Gaming , ASRock Fatal1ty Gaming Z170 K6/K6+, ASUS Z170-A, Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Ultra Gaming. Note the two heavy heatinks above and to the left of the CPU socket on these boards.

I would note though that you are likely to get a higher maximum overclock with this.

Mate, thank you so much for your response and recommendations after much looking, comparing, reviewing and price hunting i think ive decided on:

CPU: i7-7700k manage to find it on a website for 10 euros more only

Cooling: Cryorig H5 Universal, much cheaper and your right, from what ive seen, seems the way to go.

PSU: XFX Pro Series XXX 850W Modular, did not want to spend 100 euros but im investing a bit so might as well make it good/decent

Motherboard: Still hurts to go up another £50 but going with your advice MSI Z270 SLI PLUS

so thanks for your help, and lets hope your right haha.
